Job Description:

The Role

KPMG’s Energy and Natural Resources (“ENR”) tax practice covers Oil and Gas, Mining, Power and Utilities (including renewables), and Chemicals. As our clients face unprecedented change with the energy transition and fiscal uncertainty, our ENR tax and legal practice is growing significantly.

Our clients include some of the largest global ENR companies, both UK headquartered and inbound groups. Our work spans deal advisory support, international tax, and domestic tax advice. A successful candidate would have opportunities to work across these areas.

Our Deal Advisory Tax work includes advisory services across the entire deal spectrum, such as company/sell-side vendor assistance, refinancing, due diligence projects, buy-side due diligence, and structuring. We assist clients in understanding historical tax issues and structuring transactions, focusing on maximizing value throughout the investment cycle. Our work often involves multiple countries, taxes, and work streams, collaborating across the KPMG network.

In tax advisory, we support clients with business and fiscal changes, including new jurisdiction entry, new business development, reorganizations, refinancing, leasing, windfall taxes, and global fiscal changes like BEPS 2.0 Pillar 2.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Partners and/or Directors on complex engagements to deliver exceptional advice and service.
  • Support in pursuing new opportunities, including proposals and pitches.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Act as a key KPMG point of contact for clients, legal advisers, and other KPMG teams to ensure effective delivery.
  • Coach and develop colleagues, collaborate with peers, and engage in continuous learning.
  • Prepare and oversee detailed technical advice on UK and international tax issues.
  • Analyze tax-related documents/data, highlight key issues, and communicate their commercial impact to clients.
  • Collaborate critically with other UK and overseas tax specialists.
  • Demonstrate up-to-date tax technical knowledge, including UK and OECD developments.
  • Understand financial models from a tax perspective.
  • Contribute to thought leadership.

The Person

  • Qualified CTA, ACA/CA, or equivalent.
  • Enthusiastic with a keen interest in transactions.
  • Previous experience in the ENR sector is advantageous, but candidates without this experience who demonstrate strong interest and willingness to learn will be considered.
  • Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong UK corporate tax knowledge.
  • Good analytical skills, curiosity, and problem-solving abilities with a focus on commercial advice.
  • Ability to work in a team and manage workload.
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.

While some client-facing professionals may travel or work at client sites, our Deal Advisory Tax team supports flexible working arrangements. We are open to discussing individual needs and can connect you with colleagues who work flexibly to share insights into our culture.
