The Role

KPMG’s Energy and Natural Resources (“ENR”) tax practice covers Oil and Gas, Mining, Power and Utilities (including renewables), and Chemicals. As our clients face unprecedented change with the energy transition and fiscal uncertainty, our ENR tax and legal practice is growing significantly.

Our clients include some of the largest global ENR companies, both UK headquartered and inbound groups. Our work spans deal advisory support, international tax, and domestic tax advice, offering opportunities to work across these areas.

Our Deal Advisory Tax services include advising on company/sell-side vendor assist, refinancing, due diligence, buy-side due diligence, and structuring. We help clients understand historical tax issues and structure transactions, focusing on maximizing value throughout the investment cycle. Our work often involves multiple countries, taxes, and work streams.

In tax advisory, we support clients with business and fiscal change, including jurisdiction entry, new business development, reorganizations, refinancing, leasing, and the impact of windfall taxes and global fiscal changes like BEPS 2.0 Pillar 2.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Partners and/or Directors on complex engagements to deliver exceptional advice and service.
  • Support in pursuing new opportunities, including proposals and pitches.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Act as a key KPMG contact for clients, legal advisers, and other teams to ensure effective delivery.
  • Coach and develop colleagues, collaborate with peers, and pursue continuous learning.
  • Prepare and oversee detailed technical advice on UK and international tax issues.
  • Analyze tax-related documents/data, highlight key issues, and articulate their commercial impact.
  • Collaborate with UK and overseas tax specialists, critically analyzing their input.
  • Stay updated on UK and OECD tax developments.
  • Understand financial models from a tax perspective.
  • Contribute to thought leadership.

The Person

  • Qualified CTA, ACA/CA, or equivalent.
  • Enthusiastic with a keen interest in transactions.
  • Experience in ENR sector is advantageous but not mandatory; strong interest and willingness to learn are essential.
  • Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Solid UK corporate tax knowledge.
  • Strong analytical skills, curiosity, and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work in a team and manage own workload.
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.

We support flexible working arrangements to help balance work and home demands. During recruitment, we can connect you with colleagues who work flexibly to provide insight into our culture.
