Job summary

Derby College in the East Midlands is seeking a Communication Support Worker (Maternity Cover) to support deaf students and apprentices within the college and local community. You will work with sign language interpreters and CSWs to ensure full inclusion, identifying individual needs and helping learners achieve their potential in academic, social, and personal aspects.

The role requires excellent communication, strong organisational skills, Level 2 BSL, and knowledge of the Equality Act 2010.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong relationships with deaf learners.
• Solid knowledge of the Equality Act 2010 and experience supporting deaf learners in education.
• Qualified to Level 2 or above in BSL and knowledge of notetaking; additional IT skills would help.

Responsibilities

• Provide communication support to deaf students and apprentices within the College and local community.
• Work with Deaf Access Team to ensure learners are fully included in college life.
• Provide notetaking and sign support to meet individual needs; support ad-hoc events and open evenings.
