Job summary

AO is seeking a hands-on Operations teammate to ensure vehicles are loaded safely and compliant with transport rules. The role supports deliveries, repairs, and scheduling, while maintaining high safety standards across employed engineers, crews, and contractors.

You will train new starters, monitor daily priorities, and provide clear handovers. The position offers a full-time permanent contract with shift patterns that balance early and late hours at Northfleet Gravesend.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of safe loading and transport compliance.
• Excellent delivery monitoring and problem-solving skills.
• Experience supporting and training new starters, including Safe Systems of Work and Health & Safety practices.
• Confident communicator with clear handovers and good operational communication.
• Hands-on team player; capable of organising daily tasks and assisting colleagues.
• Basic vehicle maintenance skills and ability to arrange servicing.
• Strong driver engagement and customer-focused approach.

Responsibilities

• Help new starters settle in by showing them the ropes, from Safe Systems of Work to Health & Safety basics.
• Share daily or weekly priorities; ensure excellent handovers and communications.
• Work side-by-side with the team to divvy up tasks and support everyone.
• Carry out alcohol testing when needed to keep operation safe and compliant.
• Tackle small vehicle repairs and get servicing booked when due.
• Chat with Drivers and handle questions in a friendly, helpful way.
• Tranship and reload vehicles to keep everything flowing.
• Complete in-house reports accurately and on time.

Job Overview

About The Role. As part of our operational team, you'll be hands-on in keeping our vehicles loaded safely, on the road, and ready to deliver the amazing service our customers know us for. You'll get stuck into the day-to-day-making sure loads are secure, vehicles stay compliant, and everything meets our high AO standards. You'll complete regular reports with accuracy, keep a close eye on safety, and build great working relationships with our employed engineers, our self-employed crews, and the contractors who help keep our vehicles in top shape. Whether it’s supporting repairs, sorting maintenance, or sharing the right info at the right time, you’ll be the glue that keeps everything running smoothly. It's all about creating a safe, efficient operation behind the scenes so our drivers can deliver the best possible experience to our customers - because at AO, we're all about treating every delivery like it's the most important one of the day.

• Salary: £28,311.89 per annum
• Shift pattern: 5 on 3 off 5 on 2 off
• Hours: 4.00am-1.00pm and 1.00pm-10.00pm (40 hours per week)

• Keep tabs on deliveries throughout the day and jump in quickly when something needs sorting.

• Share daily or weekly priorities so the whole team knows what's happening and what we're aiming for, excellent handovers and communications are key.

• Tackle small vehicle repairs yourself and get servicing booked in when it's due.
• Chat with Drivers and handle any questions or issues in a friendly, helpful way.
• Work to tranship and reload vehicles keeping everything flowing smoothly.
• Complete in-house reports accurately and on time, helping us keep the wheels turning behind the scenes.

• Effective delivery monitoring and problem-solving skills, with the ability to react quickly to issues throughout the day.
• Experience supporting and training new starters, including knowledge of Safe Systems of Work and core Health & Safety practices.
• Confident communicator, able to share priorities clearly, provide solid handovers, and maintain smooth operational communication.
• Hands-on team player, capable of organising daily tasks, supporting colleagues and working collaboratively.
• Basic vehicle maintenance skills, including carrying out minor repairs and arranging timely servicing.
• Strong driver engagement and customer-focused approach, handling queries professionally and maintaining positive relationships.
