Job summary

Caterforce in Macclesfield is seeking a Data Technician Apprentice to support the data team and help shape smarter, faster processes across our UK foodservice group.

You will work with spreadsheets and internal systems, perform data cleaning, and progress within the data function while completing the Data Technician Level 3 apprenticeship.

Salary £17,000–£19,000 per year, Monday–Friday, 13 months, on-site role with structured training and future opportunities.

Qualifications

  • No prior data experience required; keen interest in data and systems.
  • GCSE Maths and English at grade 4/C or higher, or willing to achieve.
  • Strong numerical and analytical thinking essential.

Responsibilities

  • Support transactional and accounts-related data processes.
  • Review, check and reconcile data for accuracy.
  • Work with Excel and internal software to manage data.
  • Identify discrepancies and suggest improvements.
  • Prepare data reports for colleagues.
  • Learn via the Data Technician apprenticeship while performing day-to-day tasks.
  • Assist in data governance and process documentation.

Caterforce is looking for a motivated Data Technician Apprentice to join our busy foodservice and FMCG operation. You’ll support the team with transactional, accounts and data‑related tasks, helping keep our systems and information accurate, organised and useful.

In this role, you’ll work with spreadsheets, systems and operational data, checking, cleaning and improving key processes that keep the business running smoothly. As your skills grow, you’ll have the chance to take on more analytical work and progress within our data function.

Key responsibilities

  • Support transactional and accounts-related data processes.
  • Review, check and reconcile data to ensure information is accurate and complete.
  • Work with Excel, internal software and other business systems.
  • Help identify discrepancies, gaps and errors in data.
  • Carry out repetitive data tasks accurately and reliably, while looking for opportunities to improve or streamline the process.
  • Support reporting and data preparation for colleagues across the business.
  • Use logic and problem-solving skills to investigate issues and suggest practical solutions.
  • Learn how data supports decision‑making across a food wholesale and FMCG business.
  • Complete the Data Technician apprenticeship programme alongside your day‑to‑day role.
Entry requirements

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Interested in data, systems, technology or business operations.
  • Comfortable working with numbers and detail.
  • Logical, organised and able to follow processes carefully.
  • Curious about how things work and motivated to find quicker or better ways of completing tasks.
  • Happy to begin with the essential “bread and butter” transactional work that underpins the business.
  • Practical, reliable and willing to get on with the task at hand.
  • A strong communicator who can work well with different people and teams.
  • Interested in building a career in food wholesale/FMCG.

Useful skills and experience

  • You do not need previous data experience, but the following would be helpful:
  • Basic confidence using Excel or spreadsheets.
  • An interest in technology, systems or working with data.
  • Good numerical and analytical skills.
  • GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English at grade 4/C or above, or willingness to achieve these during the apprenticeship if required.
Training to be provided

You will undertake the ground breaking Apprentify Data Technician Level 3 apprenticeship.

Things to consider

Salary: £17,000 - £19,000k per annum, depending on experience.

This role is designed as the start of a longer‑term data career at Caterforce. You will receive structured training through a Data Technician apprenticeship and gain practical experience in a live business environment.Over time, there may be opportunities to develop into more advanced data, systems or analyst‑focused responsibilities as your skills grow.
