Derbyshire Support and Facilities Services Limited is recruiting a data science professional to develop analytics for EM-ACE within the NHS Trust framework. You will work under supervision with data engineers, analysts and stakeholders to build reproducible outputs tested locally and reused across FDP tenants.

The role emphasizes practical coding, data preparation, modelling and documentation, with opportunities to share learning and contribute to training materials.

Qualifications

• Degree in a numerate, analytical or scientific discipline or equivalent experience.
• Postgraduate training in data science, statistics or health informatics preferred.
• Experience with analytics methods and real datasets.
• Experience with healthcare data and NHS operational datasets is desirable.

Job overview

The post holder will contribute to the development of data science, advanced analytics and reproducible
analytical products for EM-ACE. Working under the supervision of senior data scientists and alongside
analysts, data engineers and operational stakeholders, the role will support problem formulation, data
preparation, exploratory analysis, statistical modelling, visualisation, evaluation and documentation.
The post holder will help create FDP-aligned, CDM-aware, reproducible outputs that can be tested locally,
improved iteratively and reused across participating EMAP organisations.

Main duties of the job

Purpose of the role within EM-ACE
• Support delivery of high-impact analytics use cases through practical coding, data analysis,
visualisation and model development.
• Contribute to reproducible analytical pipelines, documentation and shared code libraries that can be
reused across FDP tenants.
• Help convert operational problems into well-structured analytical questions, working with users to
understand data, context and intended action.
• Build data science capability across the wider analytical community by sharing learning, contributing
to code reviews and supporting training materials.

Person specification

Qualifications

• Degree level qualification in a numerate, analytical, scientific, informatics or digital discipline, or equivalent experience in an analytical/data role. Evidence of continuing professional development.
• Postgraduate qualification or training in data science, statistics, operational research, computer science, health informatics or related discipline. Membership or active involvement in AphA, AnalystX, NHS-R, nhs.pycom or similar community.

Analytical and data science experience

• Experience in an analytical, information, data or digital role, or graduate-level experience with strong applied project evidence. Experience applying statistical or data science methods to real datasets.
• Experience with healthcare, NHS operational datasets, patient pathways, health inequalities, demand/capacity analysis or evaluation.

Coding and tools

• Ability to use at least one coding language such as Python, R or SQL for data manipulation, analysis and visualisation. Basic understanding of Git or version control.
• Experience with notebooks, GitHub/GitLab, unit testing, package/project structure, APIs, cloud analytics or FDP/Foundry tooling.

RAP and quality assurance

• Ability to produce clear, documented and reproducible analysis, with attention to data quality, definitions and checking.
• Experience contributing to reproducible analytical pipelines, shared code, automated reporting, or open source analytical materials.

Communication

• Able to write clear analysis, present findings and explain technical concepts in plain language to non technical users.
• Experience producing visualisations, briefing papers, dashboards or training materials for operational or clinical users.

Planning and organisation

• Able to manage several strands of work, meet deadlines, adapt to changing priorities and escalte blockers.
• Experience working in agile delivery, sprint cycles, hackathons, product teams or multidisciplinary improvement work.

Ethics, IG and values

• Understanding of confidentiality, data protection, Caldicott principles and ethical use of data. Commitment to inclusion, reducing inequalities and public value.
• Experience considering bias, fairness, explainability, accessibility or clinical safety in analytical work.

Personal attributes

• Curious, practical, collaborative and willing to learn. Able to take feedback, improve work iteratively and contribute to a positive analytical culture.
• Evidence of sharing learning through communities, peer support, blogs, presentations, coding clubs or internal training.
