Job summary

Mills & Reeve is seeking a data protection specialist to act as a trusted advisor across the firm, solving complex issues and guiding business-focused data protection decisions. You will own significant workstreams, including supplier management, data transfer governance and client/supplier contractual requirements, reporting to the General Counsel.

The role combines technical data protection expertise with pragmatic problem-solving and stakeholder management, embedding compliance into processes

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 with practical guidance.
• Experience in non-contentious data protection work including contracts and governance.
• Commercial awareness and ability to balance regulatory needs with business aims.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical data protection advice to partners, lawyers and business teams.
• Lead supplier management and data protection in procurement and client engagements.
• Conduct data protection auditing, reporting and risk escalation within the firm.
• Maintain data protection content in contracts, letters of engagement and client terms.
• Embed data protection into decision making, technology and procurement processes.
