Job description

DESCRIPTION

As a Data Center Manager in Amazon, you will get to manage the world's largest Cloud Computing Infrastructure. We encounter interesting, challenging & complex problems every day, being a technical manager in Amazon means that you can innovate to solve these issues and help drive Operations Excellence in all areas of your role. You will manage, lead and develop a team of talented technicians across multiple sites.

You will be a proven manager with experience managing a high performing team. You will have the ability to refine and develop processes to optimize operational excellence in every area of your role. You will be able to drive performance levels to achieve the pace we build and operate our Data Centers at. You require previous experience in Data Centers, either building or managing (or both) along with exposure to developing great relationships with both internal teams and external vendors.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Managing and developing teams of engineers, providing both technical and leadership expertise and ensuring highest levels of performance.
  2. Maintaining existing co-located and in-house Data Centers.
  3. Helping build and bring online new Data Centers.
  4. Constantly improving all our processes and procedures. We believe there is nothing we cannot improve.
  5. Assisting & managing relationships with external vendors & contractors.
  6. Liaising with internal teams & management groups.
  7. Ensuring we adhere to and exceed local Health & Safety standards in all our Data Centers.
  8. Creating and maintaining metrics on all aspects of our Data Centers and utilizing those metrics to drive positive changes.
  9. Assisting in implementing service methodologies including incident management, problem management, change management, capacity management, etc.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Technical degree or equivalent experience.
  2. 5+ years of relevant engineering experience managing large scale services and 3 years managing and building strong successful technical teams in a similar culture.
  3. Project Management Experience and Systems and networking knowledge.
  4. Prior ownership of the operation of a mission-critical team and/or product.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Formal project management certifications (Prince2, PMP, AGILE).
  2. Scripting: Bash, Python, Perl, Ruby (or programming languages).
  3. Experience or Knowledge of AWS products: EC2, EBS, S3 and infrastructure and system redundancy (Power feeds, ATS, Server Hardware, RAID, Network Connectivity).
