Job summary

North is seeking a Data Centre BAU Engineer to maintain and connect critical infrastructure across Barnsley and Wakefield. You’ll handle day-to-day tasks, install copper and fibre cabling, and work with customers and engineers to meet standards.

This hands-on role requires deep experience in data centres, structured cabling, and network connectivity, plus an on-call rota and travel between sites. A full driving licence and willingness to travel are essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience working within a data centre environment.
• Strong experience with structured cabling, including copper and fibre.
• Experience installing and connecting network equipment.
• Knowledge of data centre platforms including I-Series, Z-Series and SAN environments.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
• A strong understanding of health and safety within technical/data centre environments.
• Excellent communication skills and a professional approach to working with customers.

Responsibilities

• Install and maintain copper and fibre structured cabling in line with required protocols.
• Install and connect network equipment within the data centre environment.
• Respond to incidents, faults and infrastructure requests.
• Carry out cable recovery and removal works when required.
• Manage and update client IT systems and change records.
• Liaise with customers and their clients to ensure work is delivered on time and effectively communicated.
• Attend and manage change requests where required.
• Provide support as part of the on-call rota.
• Work across both the Barnsley and Wakefield data centre sites.
