Job summary

A progressive dairy farming opportunity in Gloucestershire is seeking an Assistant Herdsperson to join an established team. The role focuses on day-to-day care of the dairy herd, calf rearing, TMR feeding, and operation of a robotic milking system.

Qualifications

• Previous practical dairy, cattle or livestock experience.
• Experience and confidence working with livestock.
• Genuine interest in developing a career within dairy farming.
• Reliable, practical and willing to learn.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• High standards of animal welfare.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to work alternate weekends as part of the normal working rota.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the day-to-day care, health and welfare of the dairy herd.
• Carry out calf rearing and youngstock duties.
• Assist with TMR feeding and general feeding duties.
• Monitor cows and support the effective operation of the robotic milking system.
• Identify and report any herd health or welfare concerns.
• Carry out general livestock husbandry and routine farm duties.
• Assist with AI and foot trimming where experienced.
• Maintain high standards of animal welfare, cleanliness and biosecurity.
• Work closely with the wider farm team to ensure the smooth running of the dairy unit.
• Maintain a safe and tidy working environment.
• Ensure all work is carried out in line with Health & Safety procedures.
