Qualifications

Job description

The Job:

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Herdsperson to join a well established and progressive dairy farm in Gloucestershire. The farm is home to a herd of around 600 cows, milked twice a day through a 50 point rotary parlour. The cows are housed all year round, with a strong focus on herd health, welfare and performance.

Key responsibilities:
  • Day to day care and management of the dairy herd
  • Monitoring herd health, fertility and welfare
  • Milking and supporting the smooth running of the parlour
  • Calf rearing and youngstock management
  • Carrying out routine herd health and treatments
  • Identifying and reporting any health or welfare concerns
  • Supporting fertility and breeding programmes
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene
  • General dairy duties as required
The Candidate:
  • Experience with milking and general dairy routines
  • Good stockmanship and attention to detail
  • A genuine passion for working with cattle
  • A reliable and hardworking approach
  • The ability to work well as part of a team
  • Tractor experience would also be advantageous, although the main focus of the role will be herd management.
