Job summary

Essex County Council in Chelmsford is seeking a Cycle Training Support Officer on a fixed term basis. The role involves supervising Cycle Training Instructors, coordinating county-wide training, and delivering sessions as needed to ensure safe, high-quality Bikeability provision.

You will mentor instructors, manage onboarding, support partnerships with schools and stakeholders, and promote active travel across the county while upholding safeguarding and health and safety requirements.

Qualifications

• A-level or equivalent experience required.
• Level 2 Instructing Cycle Training desired.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Cycle Training Instructors with coaching and feedback to ensure high-quality delivery.
• Induct and coach new instructors through structured programmes and safety policies.
• Coordinate county-wide cycle training and fleet bike bookings with schools and operators.
• Deliver cycle training sessions to cover emergencies or staff absence to maintain service.
• Support Active Travel Team to meet Local Transport Plan and related notes.
• Promote active travel and represent ECC at external events.
• Identify development needs and drive improvements in training standards.
• Monitor progress of new instructors through probation to ensure standards.
