Job summary

London-based, on-site Curriculum Manager role leading the Self Development Programme within a 16–19 Study Programme, with approximately 12–14 hours of teaching each week.

You will shape the curriculum to remain current, inclusive and challenging, combining curriculum leadership with teaching responsibilities while progressing learner development and wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Experience as Curriculum Manager or Curriculum Lead or educator.
• Strong curriculum design, development and delivery experience for young people.
• Experience designing or delivering Personal Development, PSHE or related education.
• Able to engage learners with complex or sensitive topics.
• Knowledge across careers education, politics, gender identity, inclusion, citizenship, and community.

Responsibilities

• Lead curriculum design, development and delivery of the SDP across the 16–19 Study Programme.
• Own ongoing SDP curriculum development and improvement.
• Review and develop curriculum content to stay current and inclusive.
• Deliver 12–14 hours of teaching weekly alongside management responsibilities.
• Lead, support and develop the SDP Tutor.
• Use learner voice, research and external expertise to inform planning.
• Ensure content is sequenced to meet diverse learners.
• Create engaging learning opportunities around PD, PSHE, careers, citizenship and related topics.
• Facilitate challenging conversations in a safe, structured environment.
• Oversee SDP resources and subcontracted delivery.
• Support PSHE curriculum within independent school.

Curriculum Manager

Location: London – On-site

Salary: £34,000–£35,000 pro rata (£43,000 FTE)

Contract: Permanent, Part-time – 28 hours across 4 days per week

The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Curriculum Manager, Curriculum Lead or education professional with a strong background in curriculum design, curriculum development, PSHE or Personal Development?

This is an opportunity to take the lead on an established Self Development Programme (SDP) within a 16–19 Study Programme, combining curriculum leadership with approximately 12–14 hours of teaching each week.

You’ll be responsible for protecting what already works while bringing fresh thinking, new ideas and educational judgement to the continued design and development of the curriculum.

This is a role for someone who wants to shape learning rather than simply deliver an existing programme.

Personal Development was graded Outstanding by Ofsted in 2023, providing a strong foundation from which the successful Curriculum Manager can continue to develop the provision.

The Role

• Lead the curriculum design, development and delivery of the Self Development Programme across the 16–19 Study Programme.
• Take strategic ownership of the ongoing curriculum development and continuous improvement of SDP.
• Review and develop curriculum content to ensure it remains current, relevant, inclusive and appropriately challenging.
• Deliver approximately 12–14 hours of teaching each week alongside your curriculum management responsibilities.
• Lead, support and develop the SDP Tutor.
• Use learner voice, research, current affairs and external expertise to inform curriculum planning and development.
• Ensure curriculum content is thoughtfully sequenced and adapted to meet the needs of different learners.
• Develop engaging learning opportunities around personal development, PSHE, careers, citizenship, relationships, identity, equality and wider social issues.
• Facilitate challenging conversations around complex and sensitive subjects in a safe, structured and respectful environment.
• Create opportunities for learners to question, disagree, reflect and develop their thinking.
• Oversee SDP resources and delivery for subcontracted Study Programme provision.
• Support the development and delivery of an appropriate PSHE curriculum within the organisation's independent school.

The Ideal Candidate

• Experience working as a Curriculum Manager, Curriculum Lead, Curriculum Developer, Programme Lead or experienced educator.
• Strong experience in curriculum design, curriculum development and/or curriculum delivery for young people.
• Experience designing or delivering Personal Development, PSHE or related education.
• A strong understanding of the issues, pressures and opportunities facing young people today.
• Experience engaging learners effectively with complex, sensitive or potentially controversial subject matter.
• Confident knowledge across areas such as careers education, politics, gender identity, inclusion, citizenship, community and society.
• The confidence and judgement to facilitate difficult conversations while maintaining structure, professionalism and respect.
• Relevant degree or professional qualification.
• Level 2 English and maths.
• A recognised teaching qualification is highly desirable.
