Job summary

Nelson Permanent Placements are recruiting for a building maintenance multi-trade operative to be based permanently on a static project in North Birmingham. The role covers reactive maintenance across a series of commercial buildings and requires hands-on ability across trades.

On-site duties include repairs, safety compliance, clear communication with clients and logging work updates on a company tablet. The position is permanent and on-site.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 or City & Guilds in a core trade (carpentry/plumbing/plastering) and able to work across secondary trades.
• CSCS card required or holder preferred.
• Full UK driving licence is essential.
• Experience in multi-trade facilities maintenance or building upkeep.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day reactive maintenance on site.
• Aim to complete repairs on the first visit where possible.
• Work respectfully inside occupied commercial spaces and communicate clearly with clients.
• Follow health and safety regulations and use PPE.
• Log job updates and stock on a company tablet/PDA.

The candidate will be responsible for maintenance on a series of commercial buildings on one site.

Core Responsibilities

• Multi-Trade Repairs: Perform day-to-day reactive maintenance, patch repairs, and installations. This typically includes basic plumbing (leaks, sanitaryware), carpentry (doors, locks), patching, and painting or tiling.

• First-Time Fix: Aim to complete repairs on the first visit to maintain high customer satisfaction.

• Customer Care: Work respectfully inside occupied commercial spaces, communicating clearly with the public and clients.

• Compliance & Safety: Follow health and safety regulations, use personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a safe working area.

• Digital Admin: Use a company tablet or PDA to log job updates, manage stock, and record completed work orders.

Key Requirements

• Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 or City & Guilds in a core trade (such as carpentry, plumbing, or plastering), plus working skills in secondary trades.

• Certifications: CSCS and a valid UK driving licence.

• Experience: Background in multi trade, facilities maintenance, or general building upkeep.
