Job summary

Hywel Dda University Health Board invites applications for a 12-month fixed-term Critical Care nursing post based at Prince Philip Intensive Care Unit, Llanelli. The role focuses on Level 1/2 patient care, with opportunities to develop skills in advanced assessment, deterioration recognition, and multidisciplinary teamwork.

You will benefit from a structured competency programme, supernumerary support, and exposure to Level 3 care as the service evolves towards Enhanced Care.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, patient-centred care to Level 1 and Level 2 patients within the Critical Care environment.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care, ensuring safe and effective treatment in line with professional standards.
• Recognise and respond appropriately to deteriorating patients, escalating concerns and coordinating care with the multidisciplinary team.
• Work towards developing competence in specialist therapies and equipment including HFOT, NIV, arterial line monitoring, CVP monitoring, epidural analgesia, and PCA.
• Support staff in the stabilisation and transfer of Level 3 patients when required.
• Complete a structured development and competency programme, supported by the PDN team and experienced Critical Care nurses.
• Gain exposure to Level 3 patient care and develop critical care skills through supported learning opportunities within GGH ICU.
• Contribute to service improvement, patient safety initiatives and the ongoing development of the Critical Care and Enhanced Care services.
