Job summary

A respected law firm in Telford is seeking a Criminal Duty Solicitor to join its busy Criminal Defence department. The role is suitable for a Newly Qualified solicitor or more experienced candidate with Duty Solicitor Accreditation.

You will work alongside experienced practitioners handling a varied caseload from police station representation through Magistrates' and Crown Court proceedings, with opportunities for progression and ongoing training.

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales (NQ+ PQE).
• Duty Solicitor status preferred; applications from solicitors working towards accreditation will be considered.
• Solid understanding of criminal law and procedure.
• Experience representing clients at police stations and court hearings.
• Strong advocacy, communication and client care skills.
• Ability to manage a varied caseload independently.
• Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.
• Full UK driving licence preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of criminal defence matters from instruction to conclusion.
• Provide representation at police stations, Magistrates' Courts and Crown Courts.
• Attend clients in custody and provide advice during interviews under caution.
• Prepare cases for trial, including reviewing evidence and drafting legal documents.
• Conduct advocacy where appropriate.
• Liaise with clients, counsel, courts, police, CPS and other relevant agencies.
• Ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements and firm procedures.
• Maintain accurate case records and billing information.

An established and well-respected law firm is seeking a Criminal Duty Solicitor to join its busy and growing Criminal Defence department. This opportunity is suitable for a Newly Qualified Solicitor upwards who holds the Duty Solicitor Accreditation.
