Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor with experience in criminal law.
• Duty Solicitor accreditation is desirable but not essential.
• Commitment to publicly funded work and access to justice.
• Willingness to undertake police station advice work and duty rota when accredited.
• Excellent communication, analytical and advocacy skills.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a high‑pressure environment.
• Professional and supportive teamwork, plus ability to work independently when needed.
• Proactive attitude towards compliance, risk management and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear, accurate and timely advice, assistance and representation to clients across criminal matters.
• Manage a busy caseload while maintaining excellent client care and meeting deadlines.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory obligations from Legal Aid Agency and SRA.
• Accurately record time and progress matters to meet billing targets.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the department to support a positive team culture.
• Keep legal knowledge up to date and participate in supervision and ongoing accreditations.

The Role

The successful candidate will undertake a diverse caseload of criminal matters. The role includes providing representation at the police station and undertaking court work.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Providing clear, accurate and timely advice, assistance, and representation to clients across a broad spectrum of criminal matters.
• Managing a busy and fast‑moving caseload while maintaining excellent client care and meeting key deadlines.
• Ensure full compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations, including those set by the Legal Aid Agency and the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
• Accurately recording time, progressing matters efficiently, and meeting agreed billing/performance targets.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues across the department, offering support and contributing to a positive team culture.
• Keeping your legal knowledge up to date, participating in supervision, and maintaining relevant accreditations.

Skils & Experience

• A qualified solicitor with experience in criminal law; Duty Solicitor accreditation is desirable but not essential.
