Irwin M&E Limited in Portadown is seeking an experienced Credit Controller to join our finance team. The role focuses on managing customer accounts, chasing overdue balances, and maintaining strong relationships across the business.

You will assess credit risk, reconcile ledgers, allocate payments, and prepare customer statements while using Microsoft Excel and ERP systems. This part-time permanent role offers a competitive remuneration package aligned with experience and contributes to cash

Qualifications

• Experience in credit control or debt collection.
• Strong IT and systems proficiency with Excel.
• Full driving license.
• Experience with accounting software/ERP, preferably Microsoft BC.

Responsibilities

• Chase overdue invoices via telephone, email, and letters.
• Credit risk assessment: evaluating new and existing customer credit limits.
• Account reconciliation: reconciling ledgers and allocating payments.
• Dispute resolution with internal sales and billing teams.
• Manage customer accounts: review balances, chase overdue amounts, issue statements.
• Maintain aged debt reports and forecast cash collections for stakeholders.
• Escalate accounts with Letters Before Action or external agencies if needed.

Status of post: Part-Time Permanent (Approximately 26 hours per week, negotiable)

Role

At Irwin we provide a full range of Mechanical, Electrical, and Energy and Renewables installation and maintenance services to clients, across both public and private sectors throughout the UK and Ireland. Due to growth, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced credit controller to join our busy finance team based in Portadown. The successful candidate will play an important role within the finance team, taking responsibility for managing customer accounts, ensuring outstanding balances are collected efficiently and maintaining strong relationships with customers across the business.

Job Description:

The role of the Credit Controller will be varied and will include:

• Debt Collection: Chasing overdue invoices via telephone, email, and formal letters.
• Credit Risk Assessment: Evaluating new and existing customer credit limits and financial stability.
• Account Reconciliation: Reconciling ledgers, allocating incoming payments, and clearing unallocated cash.
• Dispute Resolution: Working with internal sales and billing teams to resolve invoice queries holding up payment.
• Managing Customer Accounts: Review balances, chase overdue amounts, ensure all allocations are complete, preparing and issuing customer statements.
• Reporting: Maintaining aged debt reports and forecasting cash collections for senior finance stakeholders.
• Legal Escalation: Issuing Letters Before Action (LBAs) or coordinating with external collection agencies / legal proceedings if accounts default.
• Supporting the Finance team with ongoing ad hoc finance and administrative tasks as required.
• Communication & Negotiation: Confident, firm, and polite telephone manner to handle difficult conversations without damaging client relationships.
• The ability to build effective relationships with customers and colleagues.
• IT & Systems Proficiency: Strong grasp of Microsoft Excel alongside accounting software /ERP systems (Experience using Microsoft BC is desired but not essential)
• Attention to Detail: High accuracy in recording transactions, updating logs, and handling complex reconciliations.
• Problem Solving Skills: resolve billing disputes or queries that are delaying payment.
• A proactive and professional approach.
• Full Driver’s license
• Experience using Microsoft BC is desired but not essential
