Job description

We're looking for an experienced Credit Controller to join our growing team!

Location: Heckmondwike

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9.00am–5.30pm - Office Based

This is a great opportunity for someone who already has experience in Credit Control and is looking for a role where they can take ownership of their customer accounts, build strong relationships and continue to develop their career.

You'll be responsible for proactively managing a portfolio of customer accounts, ensuring payments are received within agreed terms and working with customers to resolve any issues that may affect payment.

About Videcon

We are one of the UK's leading distributors of CCTV, Fire, Access and Intruder products. We supply reliable products backed up by expert technical support and excellent after-sales care.

We've been trading for over 30 years and continue to grow.

So, that's the corporate introduction. Now, let's talk about us.

We genuinely believe our people are the best thing about Videcon. We have colleagues who have been with us for many years, alongside lots of new faces who have joined us over the last 12 months. So, if you're joining us, you certainly won't be the only "new kid on the block".

We're a vibrant team with plenty of different personalities. We're funny, serious, quiet and loud, but one thing we have in common is that we work hard, support each other and have plenty of laughs along the way.

It's a busy office, but it's also a friendly one. Our Directors have an approachable, open-door policy, and you'll regularly see them around the office catching up with colleagues and getting involved in the banter.

We also enjoy getting together outside of work, with company nights out, BBQs, sporting events, Christmas celebrations and other team activities throughout the year.

And yes, we have a fabulous coffee machine, plenty of different teas, breakfast cereals and fresh fruit. Our kitchen is fully equipped with toaster, microwaves and, of course, the staple two-drawer air fryer!

Our customers are important to us too. We pride ourselves on providing a professional service while building long‑term relationships. You might hear colleagues talking to customers about football, holidays or what they've been up to at the weekend alongside the business conversation. We believe strong relationships—both internally and externally—help create happy teams and happy customers.

The Role

As a Credit Controller, you'll play an important role in ensuring our customer accounts are well managed, and payments are received on time.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Proactively contacting customers to secure payment of outstanding invoices.
  • Managing a portfolio of customer accounts and ensuring payments are received within agreed credit terms.
  • Monitoring overdue accounts and taking appropriate action to minimise aged debt.
  • Discussing and negotiating appropriate payment arrangements with customers where necessary.
  • Liaising with customers regarding orders placed on credit hold due to overdue balances or customers exceeding their agreed credit limits.
  • Building positive and professional relationships with customers while remaining confident and firm when discussing payment.
  • Allocating customer payments accurately and promptly to the correct accounts.
  • Sending customer statements and reminder letters as required.
  • Working closely with the Credit Manager to review your ledger, discuss any areas of concern and identify potential issues before they become problems.
  • Taking ownership of your accounts and escalating any significant issues or risks at the appropriate time.
About You

We're looking for someone who has at least 12 months' experience working in a Credit Control environment and who understands that successful Credit Control is about being proactive, persistent and professional.

You’ll ideally be someone who:

  • Has previous experience in Credit Control, Accounts Receivable or Sales Ledger.
  • Is confident speaking with customers about outstanding payments.
  • Has good negotiation skills and can remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging situations.
  • Can balance being firm about payment with maintaining positive customer relationships.
  • Is organised and able to manage their own workload effectively.
  • Has a proactive, "can-do" attitude and is comfortable working independently.
  • Takes ownership of their responsibilities and uses their own initiative rather than waiting to be told what to do.
  • Has excellent communication skills and can adapt their approach to different customers and situations.
  • Is comfortable working as part of a busy team and is willing to support colleagues when needed.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who knows Credit Control, enjoys the role and is keen to develop and progress.

What We Offer
  • 26 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Company bonus scheme, rewarding the overall performance and success of the business.
  • Individual bonus scheme, recognising your personal performance and contribution to the team.
  • Christmas closure, including Christmas Eve.
  • Free on-site parking.
  • Monday to Friday, 9.00am–5.30pm working hours.
  • Early Finish Fridays currently being trialled every fortnight.
  • Company social events and team activities.
  • A friendly, supportive and growing team.
  • Fully equipped kitchen with tea, coffee, breakfast cereals and fresh fruit.
