Job summary

Discovery Schools Trust is seeking a motivated Cover Supervisor to support teaching teams across the Melton area. You will supervise pupils, implement learning activities set by teachers and help maintain a safe and productive learning environment.

In this role you will liaise with staff, provide feedback on pupil engagement, and contribute to a positive, well-supported learning community. Occasional travel between Discovery locations may be required.

Qualifications

  • NVQ 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent.
  • Level 2 qualifications in maths/numeracy and English/literacy or equivalent proof of literacy/numeracy.
  • Experience in formal education settings is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a class in the absence of a teacher, ensuring pupils are engaged with set learning activities.
  • Liaise with teachers and staff regarding work set for classes.
  • Provide feedback to teachers on pupil engagement and any issues during cover periods.
  • Help maintain a safe, secure learning environment aligned with lesson plans.
  • Support the activity bank and offer additional activities to maintain engagement if needed.
  • Travel between Discovery locations may be required; a valid driving licence and business insurance are required.

Responsibilities and Qualifications
  • In the absence of a teacher, to supervise a class of students, ensuring they are engaged in learning activity that has been set by a teacher. This may include explaining the work to be completed and answering questions from pupils to ensure that they understand what is required of them.
  • To liaise with teachers / other relevant staff with regard to work set for a class.
  • To feedback to the relevant teacher on pupil engagement in the set work and also on any issues that may have arisen during the covered lesson(s).
  • To help prepare, monitor and maintain a safe and secure learning environment in line with the teacher's lesson plans.
  • To support the maintenance of an activity bank, and draw upon this in the event that pupils complete the pre-set work more quickly than expected, in order to ensure that pupils are engaged in constructive activity throughout the period of cover.
  • NVQ 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent, OR Able to demonstrate the ability to meet the STL Level 3 National Occupational Standards relevant to this post.
  • Level 2 qualifications in maths/numeracy and English/literacy OR Able to demonstrate competency in literacy and numeracy equivalent to level 2.
Experience
  • Experience of working with students in a formal setting.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Knowledge of child protection and health and safety procedures.
  • Ability and willingness to undertake professional development.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage pupil behaviour in accordance with school policy and procedure.
  • Depending on your role, occasional travel between Discovery locations may be required. A valid driving license and appropriate business insurance are necessary, and you will need to provide evidence of these documents.
