Job summary

Merrydale Junior School is seeking a caring Learning Support Assistant to join our dedicated team. You will support pupils’ learning and wellbeing, helping them reach their full potential in a warm, inclusive environment.

The role involves working under a teacher's supervision, delivering targeted activities and providing feedback on pupil progress. A DBS check may be required and attendance at INSET days is expected.

Qualifications

• NVQ 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent, or demonstrable STL Level 2 NOS.
• Level 2 in Maths/Numeracy and English/Literacy.

Responsibilities

• Support the teacher by assisting pupils with learning and participation in activities.
• Deliver planned learning activities to meet individual needs, individually or in small groups.
• Observe pupils and provide feedback to the teacher on engagement and progress.

Salary: Grade 5 Pay Point 7-8 (Actual Salary Approximately of £16,547)

Hours: 27.5 hours per week and 39 weeks per year. ( 38 weeks per year plus additional week including INSET days)

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 08:45 -15:15, with one hour unpaid lunch break

Key Responsibilities

• To work under the supervision of a teacher to provide care and encouragement to children and young people with disabilities or special educational needs, supporting them to participate in activities and liaising, if required, with parents / carers / other professionals as appropriate.
• To work under the direct supervision of a teacher to carry out planned learning activities to meet the specific needs of designated children, either individually or in small groups, providing feedback on their engagement in activities and their achievement of the desired learning objectives.
• To support the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development of pupils, including contributing ideas and suggestions to support planning, to meet their development needs.
• To observe and feed back to the teacher on pupil performance and behaviour, taking action as appropriate in line with relevant school policies.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications:

• NVQ 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent OR Able to demonstrate the ability to meet the STL Level 2 National Occupational Standards relevant to this post.
• Level 2 qualifications in maths/numeracy and English/literacy

Experience:

• Experience of supporting teaching and learning in a formal setting

Skills & Knowledge:

• Knowledge of child protection and health and safety procedures.
• Ability and willingness to undertake professional development.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Empathy with children and young people.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
