Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking confident, adaptable individuals to join secondary schools across Bath & North East Somerset as Cover Supervisors. You’ll lead classes when a teacher is away, explaining work and keeping students engaged.

Experience as a Cover Supervisor, HLTA, LSA or Teaching Assistant is welcome. A calm, reliable approach and strong behaviour-management skills will help you thrive in this flexible role across short-term and longer-term assignments.

Qualifications

• Experience as Cover Supervisor, HLTA, LSA or Teaching Assistant preferred.
• Ability to lead a class and keep students engaged.
• Experience with secondary-aged students beneficial.
• Strong behaviour-management skills required.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for classes when the usual teacher is unavailable.

TeacherActive is working with secondary schools across Bath & North East Somerset who are looking for confident, reliable and enthusiastic Cover Supervisors to join them for both short-term and longer-term assignments.

What does a Cover Supervisor actually do?

You'll take responsibility for classes of students aged when their usual teacher is unavailable.

The lesson has already been planned for you your job is to take the lead in the classroom, explain the work, keep students engaged, manage behaviour effectively and make sure learning continues.

One day you could be covering English, the next History, Science or Geography. That's exactly what makes the role so varied.

You don't need to be a qualified teacher.

What matters is confidence, communication, resilience and the ability to build positive relationships with young people.

We'd particularly love to hear from you if you have:

• Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor
• Experience as an HLTA, LSA or Teaching Assistant
• Coaching, mentoring or youth-work experience
• Experience working with secondary-aged students
• Strong behaviour-management skills
• The confidence to stand in front of a class and take the lead
• A calm, reliable and proactive approach
• The ability to adapt quickly to different schools, subjects and year groups
