Job summary

Sapientia Education Trust at Fakenham Academy seeks a Cover Supervisor to supervise classes and support learning when teachers are absent. You will help maintain a calm, positive learning environment for students aged 11 to 16 and undertake related duties to ensure continuity of teaching.

The role is permanent, 32.5 hours per week, term-time plus one week, with safeguarding duties and opportunities for broader support across the academy.

Qualifications

• Minimum grade C/4 in English and Maths GCSE.
• Educated to at least A-Level (or equivalent).
• A degree level qualification would be an advantage; however, relevant experience is welcome.

Location: Fakenham

Salary: SCP 7-11 - £27,274 - £29,071 FTE Pro rata £20,606-£22,356 per annum, including an allowance for holiday pay

THE ROLE

We wish to appoint a Cover Supervisor to join our Cover Team to start as soon as possible.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising classes during teacher absence and undertaking other duties such as tutor-time supervision, break/lunch duties, providing flexible support across the school by assisting the Pastoral and SEND teams and carrying out administrative tasks when required to ensure consistent care, support, and continuity of learning for all our students.

Applicants must be adaptable and resilient with good interpersonal skills. The ability to gain the respect of students is essential. Applicants should ideally have had previous experience of working with young people between the ages of 11 to 16.

The Academy is committed to safeguarding and prompting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful candidates will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check and all necessary safeguarding checks before employment commences.

As a Cover supervisor you will supervise whole classes to cover absences of teachers and to allow teachers to carry out professional duties and training. Cover supervisors will give instructions for the lesson, as provided by the teacher, and keep students on task while maintaining good order. Cover supervisors will respond to general questions and provide general feedback to the teacher.

The first three months of employment shall be a probationary period and employment may be terminated by the Trust during this period at any time on one week’s prior written notice. The Trust may, at its absolute discretion, extend this period for one month. During this probationary period, performance and suitability for continued employment will be monitored.

• Be supportive of the particular ethos and expectations of the Sapientia Education Trust;
• Be flexible and creative in approach and be open to the possibility of developing a wider role in the Trust.

The qualifications and previous experience required for a Cover Supervisor are:

• A minimum of a grade C / 4, or equivalent, in English and Maths GCSE
• Be educated to at least A-Level (or equivalent) standard;
• A degree level qualification, or equivalent, would also be an advantage; however, candidates with relevant experience should not be discouraged from applying.
