Job summary

E-ACT Shenley Academy is seeking a Cover Supervisor to supervise classes, support learning, and maintain a positive and orderly learning environment. The role requires effective classroom management, clear communication with students and staff, and a flexible, resilient approach to daily school life.

The position is permanent, 32.5 hours per week during 39 weeks per year, with a focus on creating an inclusive and supportive atmosphere that helps learners achieve their potential.

Qualifications

  • GCSE level (or equivalent), including Grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics.
  • Strong classroom management skills with the ability to supervise whole classes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the confidence to build relationships with students, staff, parents, and external stakeholders.
  • Organised, adaptable and able to work independently, following lesson plans and responding calmly to changing situations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising pupils undertaking work set in accordance with the Academy’s policy under guidance of staff.
  • Establishing productive working relationships with students and promoting high expectations.
  • Monitoring and recording student responses and providing feedback/reports as required.
  • Encouraging students to interact and work cooperatively with others in activities.
  • Using ICT to support learning activities and develop students’ competence.

Key responsibilities:
  • Supervising pupils undertaking work that has been set in accordance with the Academy’s policy, under the guidance of teaching/senior staff.

Pay range:

SCP 17 - 21 £24,741.09 - £26,432.65 (FTE: £32,046.00 - £34,237.00)

32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent), including Grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics; relevant experience working with children or young people is desirable.
  • Strong classroom management skills with the ability to supervise whole classes, maintain a positive learning environment, and manage behaviour effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and external stakeholders.
  • Organised, adaptable, and able to work independently, following lesson plans and responding calmly and professionally to changing situations within a school environment.
