Job description

Fortis Academy are seeking a confident and reliable Cover Supervisor to join our dynamic team!

In this vital role, you’ll oversee classes during teacher absences, ensuring students stay on task with pre-set work in a calm and focused environment. Ideal for individuals with strong classroom presence and a passion for education, this position offers a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience and make a meaningful impact. If you’re adaptable, professional, and ready to inspire students, we’d love to hear from you!

Fortis Academy is a large 11-18 academy serving a high-density housing area in Birmingham’s outer suburbs. It is the largest employer in the ward, with over 200 employees, and is part of the North Area Network of schools, which includes a Foundation Academy and Senior Academy.

Our vision is Enriching Lives, underpinned by the values of Character, Resilience, and Aspiration. We focus on a knowledge-based academic curriculum, physical and mental well-being, and the use of 21st-century technologies to support improved outcomes. We aim to help students lead confident, healthy, and fulfilled lives as adults, ready for the world of work.

Shaw Education Trust manages a diverse group of schools, including primary, secondary, and special schools, all committed to improving young people's lives. Sponsored by Shaw Trust, a charity dedicated to transforming lives, our academies strive to provide education for children of all abilities, ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed regardless of their starting point.

In our secondary schools, we emphasize innovative curriculum design to ensure breadth and ambition for all students. We explore extended school days, vocational pathways, and collaborations with employers and universities to develop work readiness and provide meaningful opportunities for students.

We value collaboration across our schools, co-constructing aligned curricula and sharing best practices to raise standards and reduce planning workload, allowing staff to focus more on student relationships and effective teaching.

Employee benefits include:

  • Support staff working full-time, all year, with generous holiday entitlement (37 days rising to 39 days after 5 years, including Bank Holidays)
  • Electric Car Scheme
  • Medicash Health & Wellbeing Plan
  • Discount for Teachers Scheme
  • Free Eye Tests
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Opportunities for professional growth through the Institute of Education and other courses

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The role is subject to vetting procedures, including an online check and a DBS check. All shortlisted candidates will undergo an online search as part of safer recruitment practices.

We review applications on an ongoing basis and may appoint before the closing date. Early applications are encouraged.

We are an Equal Opportunities employer. CVs alone will not be accepted, and successful candidates will undergo relevant employment checks, including an enhanced DBS.
