Job summary

West Northamptonshire Council is seeking a Council Tax Billing Officer to manage Council Tax accounts and billing processes with strong local authority experience. The role requires accurate processing of billing changes, exemptions and reductions, while delivering high-quality customer service.

The successful candidate will apply legislation, respond to inquiries by phone, email or post, and coordinate with internal teams to meet service standards.

Qualifications

• Recent experience working within a Local Authority Council Tax Billing or Revenues team.
• Strong knowledge of Council Tax legislation and billing processes.
• Experience processing discounts, exemptions, disregards and Council Tax Reduction schemes.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Experience using MRI Revenues & Benefits (formerly Academy) is essential.

Responsibilities

• Administration and maintenance of Council Tax accounts. Processing changes in liability, billing amendments and account updates.
• Applying Council Tax legislation and ensuring accurate account determination.
• Responding to customer enquiries via telephone, email and written correspondence. Working to targets and service standards within a busy Revenues environment.
• Liaising with internal departments and external stakeholders as required.

Council Tax Billing Officer

This role requires a candidate who can hit the ground running and has recent experience administering Council Tax accounts within a Local Authority environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of Council Tax billing, ensuring compliance with legislation and delivering a high level of customer service.

• Administration and maintenance of Council Tax accounts. Processing changes in liability, billing amendments and account updates. Assessing and processing discounts, exemptions, disregards and Council Tax Reduction applications.
• Applying Council Tax legislation and ensuring accurate account determination.
• Responding to customer enquiries via telephone, email and written correspondence. Working to targets and service standards within a busy Revenues environment.
• Liaising with internal departments and external stakeholders as required.
• Essential Requirements Recent experience working within a Local Authority Council Tax Billing or Revenues team.
• Strong knowledge of Council Tax legislation and billing processes.
• Experience processing discounts, exemptions, disregards and Council Tax Reduction schemes. Ability to manage high volumes of work accurately and efficiently.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
