Job summary

Capita plc is hiring a Coppersmith/Pipefitter Trainer to support the Royal Navy training programme at HMS Sultan, Portsmouth. You will deliver hands-on training, assess trainees, and keep training materials up to date, while adhering to KPIs, SLAs and safety standards.

The role is full-time, 37.5 hours per week on-site with a term-time basis (45 weeks per year) and requires eligibility for UK Security Clearance at SC level.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 3 Technical Certificate in an Engineering discipline.
• Be proficient in the use of IT (hardware/software) within the workplace.
• Competent practical Coppersmith/Pipefitter hand skills.
• Proven experience in workshop/industry principles.

Responsibilities

• Provide training on how to fit pipework on ships from a drawing (Fit from design).
• Teaching Brazing techniques.
• Maintain strong working relationships with customers and colleagues within the Marine Engineering Electrical training area.
• Support trainee development through assessment, feedback, and personalised learning approaches.
• Maintain and update training materials, and contribute to modernising and improving training delivery.
• Ensure compliance with KPIs, SLAs, and safety standards, while maintaining a CPD portfolio.

Project Selborne is a Transformational Training programme with a strategic goal of modernising Royal Navy training to deliver "better trained sailors to the front line faster".

Your role will be to provide support to the delivery of training across Coppersmith/Pipefitter skills area within Skill of Hand Training group.

Full-time role, 37.5 hours a week on a term time only basis

Desirable Skills/Experience/Qualifications

• Level 4 Teaching Qualification / DCTS Defence Train The Trainer Course or equivalent (successful completion)
• Previous instructional experience in a military or civilian engineering environment

This role is offered on a term time basis working 45 weeks per year, with non-working weeks taken 2 weeks at Christmas and Easter and 3 weeks in August. The salary will therefore be pro rata'd and calculated to include contractual annual leave entitlement and bank holidays.
