Job summary

Abbeyfield Living Society seeks a Cook for Pratt House in Amersham. This 30-hour-per-week role pays £13.35 per hour and requires a Food Hygiene certificate (or willingness to obtain within 3 months).

You’ll plan, prepare and cook meals for residents, order supplies, and manage stock while ensuring safety and hygiene. You will work as part of a caring team, supporting residents with nutritious meals and maintaining kitchen standards in line with Environmental Health guidelines.

Qualifications

• Certificate in Food Hygiene or willingness to obtain within first 3 months.
• Experience cooking varied, healthy meals for large groups (12+) on a regular basis.
• Ability to read and write to a good standard.
• Methodical and highly organised with stock rotation.
• Empathy and understanding of nutritional needs of older people.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and cook residents’ meals from the agreed menu, considering preferences and dietary needs.
• Order supplies on time and manage stock control within budget.
• Ensure safe and proper use of catering equipment and COSHH compliance.
• Keep kitchen clean and hygienic following Environmental Health standards.
• Record deliveries and meals to enable audits and stock checks.
