Job summary

Abbeyfield in Salisbury is seeking a Cook on a casual (bank) basis. You will plan, prepare and cook residents’ meals from the menu, considering dietary needs. A Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to obtain one within three months is required, with experience cooking for large groups. You’ll manage stock, orders and ensure food safety in a clean kitchen.

Flexible hours, training provided, and pro rata leave. You must be eligible to work in the UK and complete the Enhanced DBS check.

Qualifications

• Certificate in Food Hygiene or willingness to obtain within 3 months.
• Experience cooking varied, healthy meals for large groups (9–20).
• Good communication and teamwork; reads/writes well.
• Methodical, organised; maintain clean kitchen; stock rotation.
• Empathy for nutritional needs of older people.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and cook residents’ meals from the agreed menu, considering dietary requirements.
• Create healthy balanced menus in consultation with residents and staff.
• Ensure safe supply of catering products and timely stock orders; record deliveries and orders.
• Maintain stock rotation and manage catering costs within budget.
• Ensure safe use of equipment and adherence to COSHH and food safety records.
