Job description

About

With 100,000 employees worldwide, ENGIE is a leader in the energy transition. Its purpose is to act to accelerate the transition towards a carbon-neutral economy, through reduced energy consumption and more environmentally-friendly solutions. This purpose brings together the company, its employees, its clients, and its shareholders, and reconciles economic performance with a positive impact on people and the planet.

We are looking for people who are committed to help turn our vision into reality.

In the UK, ENGIE is engaged in the operation and development of a large portfolio, comprising renewable assets (onshore wind, solar PV, biomethane plants), flexible assets (pumped-hydro storage, gas storage, batteries, etc.) and the supply of gas and electricity to over 17,000 B2B customers.

GEMS (Global Energy Management and Supply) is a business unit within ENGIE, supporting clients in their transition towards a carbon-neutral economy by supplying energy and providing comprehensive energy management solutions, both internally and externally.

GEM UK, within GEMS, is responsible for Energy Management and Trading activities in the UK, operating on two main pillars: assets management and optimisation, and risk management solutions for clients.

GEM UK has developed deep expertise in UK power and gas wholesale markets, with over 60 employees covering the entire chain from front-office to back-office and support functions.

Organisation, Location & Main Missions

The COO of EM UK is responsible for implementing business strategies, managing support functions, maintaining internal relationships, and ensuring effective interaction within the organization and with external entities, including legal and regulatory bodies.

As COO of EM UK, your key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing risk governance and implementing risk mandates in collaboration with GEMs Risk EC and CRO Europe.
  • Building, monitoring, and reviewing risk policies and procedures.
  • Balancing commercial objectives with effective market and credit management.
  • Supervising market and credit risk analysis, and representing GEMs EM UK in operational excellence matters.
  • Managing risk teams and ensuring communication across business platforms.
  • Maintaining current risk policies and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Additionally, the COO oversees day-to-day FINOPS responsibilities, including back-office and middle-office operations, financial reporting, process automation, and transaction recording.

The role also involves overseeing internal control, compliance, market conduct, and ensuring adherence to regulations such as EMIR, REMIT, MIFID, and MAR. The COO acts as the local contact for audits and coordinates with legal and regulatory departments to ensure policies are respected.

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience in risk management and operational leadership within a regulated environment.
  • Understanding of operational processes and organizational structure.
  • Experience managing senior staff and fostering collaboration.
