Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a Lead Controls Engineer to head a high-performing team responsible for the design, implementation, and commissioning of control systems for critical infrastructure projects.

You will mentor and develop engineers, champion safety, quality and operational excellence, and collaborate with Operations, Design Engineering, Construction, Procurement and Project Management to deliver integrated, reliable solutions.

Qualifications

• Strong controls engineering knowledge within critical infrastructure environments (data centres, manufacturing, building systems).
• Experience in controls system design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Understanding of engineering standards, safety regulations, and quality assurance practices.
• Knowledge of root cause analysis methodologies, CAFM systems, and critical facility infrastructure.
• Technical understanding of networks, servers, and virtualised environments.
• Proven experience leading and developing engineering teams.
• Ability to coach, mentor, and build capability across a technical organisation.
• Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills in complex operational environments.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes.
• A naturally collaborative and inclusive leader.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Controls Engineers
• Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment where people can grow and succeed
• Provide technical oversight, guidance, and design reviews for control systems and infrastructure projects
• Partner with Operations, Design Engineering, Construction, Procurement, and Project Management teams to deliver integrated solutions
• Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and engineering best practices
• Champion safety, compliance, and risk management across all engineering activities
• Support major infrastructure projects, testing activities, and system implementations
• Ensure systems are designed and maintained for long-term reliability, efficiency, and operational excellence
