Job summary

Civic Recruitment Limited is seeking a Chef for a 3‑month contract in Nottinghamshire. The role involves delivering nutritious meals in a school or community setting, planning menus, managing stock and budgets, and upholding strict food hygiene and safety standards.

You will prepare and serve meals, monitor deliveries, maintain hygiene, and support safe operation of the kitchen in a locally governed environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in a professional catering or kitchen environment.
• Knowledge of food hygiene, health and safety, and safe food preparation.
• Ability to plan menus, manage stock and budgets.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 or equivalent is desirable.
• Understanding of COSHH and health and safety requirements in catering.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and serve high-quality meals in line with approved menus and nutrition standards.
• Plan menus, order supplies, and monitor expenditure within the budget.
• Maintain cleanliness, food hygiene, and kitchen safety at all times.
• Check deliveries for quality and quantity and liaise with suppliers.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety at Work and food hygiene regulations.
• Maintain stock records and secure storage areas.
• Clean equipment and surfaces according to schedules.
• Support COSHH and risk assessments, ensuring safe use of chemicals.
