Job summary

Port of Tilbury London Ltd is recruiting for a Container Terminal Operative to support landside and shipside operations at Tilbury. The role requires flexibility to work 5 days in a 7-day cycle, with early, late, night shifts and weekends.

You will drive straddle carriers, perform required cargo handling tasks, and follow safety policies while delivering cargo to vessels in the condition it was received. A full UK driving licence and UK work rights are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Drive straddle carriers to move containers within the terminal/port.
  • Perform manual handling, lashing and mooring.
  • Deliver cargo to and from vessels in its delivered condition.
  • Carry out cargo handling, housekeeping and basic maintenance.
  • Understand and follow computer-delivered information.
  • Uphold safety standards and operating procedures.
  • Maintain shift start/finish time integrity.
  • Care for company property and equipment.
  • Carry out other ad-hoc duties as assigned by the line manager.

Salary: £41,556 + £1,243 shift allowance + overtime + benefits

Overtime earning potential can add up to c.£9,000 in additional earnings

Shifts: 5 over 7 days - please note due to the nature of the work involved, we require flexibility from all operatives to work shifts which may include early, late, night-shifts and / or weekends.

We have a number of new opportunities to join our LCT team at the Port of Tilbury as a Container Terminal Operative.

About The Role
Key Responsibilities
  • Drive straddle carriers to move containers within the confines of the Terminal / Port, as necessary, to service the landside and shipside operations
  • Manual handling, lashing & mooring
  • Deliver customers cargo to and from vessels in the condition which it was delivered to the terminal
  • Cargo handling, housekeeping duties and basic maintenance
  • Ability to understand and follow computer delivered information
  • Upholding the highest standards of safety and adherence to operating policies and procedures
  • Deliver to customers satisfactions
  • Maintain shift, start and finish time integrity
  • Ensure that care is taken of company property and equipment
  • Carry out other ad-hoc duties assigned by the line manager

  • Experience of working in ports and with plant machinery is preferred, but not necessary as full training will be given

Required Criteria
  • Able to commit to flexible shift pattern including early, late & night shifts, as well as weekend work
  • Ability to work comfortably at heights and in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to perform manual handling tasks on a regular basis
  • Full right to work in the UK
  • Full driving licence, valid in the UK
