Job summary

We are looking for an outstanding Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Psychiatric Liaison Team. The ideal candidate will have dual accreditation in Liaison Psychiatry and Older Adults or substantial experience in OPMH, either as a senior grade doctor or as part of a training program.

The Liaison Team at University Hospitals Plymouth is an experienced team working to support patients from 18 years and up. The team is co-located with the Safeguarding Adults team, Alcohol Liaison Nurse, Frailty Nurse (Cornwall Partnership Trust), and Liaison Learning Disability and Autism Team for collaborative working.

Appointment will be to the new Consultant contract, with a salary range pro rata of £105,504 to £139,882 for ten Programmed Activities (PAs), dependent on seniority and thresholds, subject to negotiation of the agreed job plan.

Main duties of the job

Enjoying the fast-paced nature of an all-age Liaison Psychiatry team, you will be enthusiastic, professional, and committed to providing the very best care for patients who often present themselves at the most critical stage of their illness. You will provide sound medical advice to the internal team and colleagues in primary care.

As an experienced consultant, you will possess the skills and knowledge to supervise foundation, GP, and psychiatry trainees assigned to the department (with protected time). You will also have opportunities to participate in psychiatric teaching and other academic meetings. You will be at the forefront of decisions regarding service provision, development, and delivery, and involved in decision-making related to risk and patient pathway coordination.

  • Desirable: Clinical research completion, research development partnership with the university, publications in refereed journals

Qualifications
  • Essential: GMC registration, inclusion on the Specialist Register in Psychiatry, extensive experience in Older Adult psychiatry, knowledge of Mental Health legislation, participation in CPD, MDT working, ability to offer psychiatric opinions, teaching, communication, IT skills, reliability, team skills, caring attitude
  • Desirable: MRCPsych, teaching qualification, endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry/Older Adults, community psychiatry experience, research, publications, curriculum design, supervision, relationship building, willingness for additional responsibilities, team motivation
