Job summary

Oxford Health NHS Trust seeks a consultant psychiatrist to lead the Buckinghamshire Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team. The role covers diagnosis, management, and treatment for adults at risk of mental health crises, delivered through home treatment to support early discharge from inpatient care.

The post combines clinical leadership with responsibility for your own patients and those seen by staff you supervise, plus daytime and out-of-hours cover.

Qualifications

• Medical degree is required.
• Full GMC registration is required.
• Eligible for GMC Specialist Register or within six months of CCT at interview.
• Approved Clinician (AC) status and Section 12 MHA approval (candidates in process will be considered).

Responsibilities

• Provide senior medical expertise and clinical leadership across the crisis team, overseeing own patients and those managed by staff you supervise.
• Lead crisis response, including emergency assessments and reviews.
• Deliver direct clinical care and keep care plans under active medical review.
• Gate-keep admissions to psychiatric beds.
• Enable early discharge from inpatient care through intensive home treatment with multiple visits daily.
• Write timely clinical records of assessments, treatment plans, progress and discharges in Trust IT systems.
• Liaise with inpatient wards, community teams and partner agencies to manage patient transitions.
• Work with team manager and senior colleagues on running and developing the service.
• Attend directorate and Medical Advisory Committee meetings.
• Collect and record clinical data and participate in audits.
• Cover daytime rota, annual leave, study leave and sickness with colleagues; contribute to out-of-hours rota.
