Job summary

Oxford Health NHS Trust is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to lead the Assertive Outreach Team for adults with severe and enduring mental illness in Oxford city. The role emphasizes clinical leadership, governance and collaboration with families and partner agencies.

You will deliver evidence-based interventions, supervise medical staff, and contribute to training and research. Full GMC registration and eligibility for Specialist Register are required, with Section 12 approval or willingness

Qualifications

• Excellent working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and its application.
• Appreciation of ethnic minority issues and culturally sensitive practice.
• Understanding of social determinants affecting psychiatry and patient care.
• Strong teaching and communication skills for MDTs, learners and external partners.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership and medical input for the Assertive Outreach Team.
• Deliver bio-psychosocial interventions to promote recovery and social inclusion.
• Be responsible for patients seen and supervise junior medical staff.
• Conduct expert assessments for patients with severe, enduring mental illness and complex needs.
• Hold clinical governance responsibilities as a team lead.
• Coordinate with other mental health teams for continuity of care and information sharing.
• Act as responsible clinician for outpatients under the Mental Health Act.
• Engage with patients, families, carers and external agencies.
• Contribute to training and education of medical students, residents and MDT members.
