Job summary

Priory Hospital Preston is seeking a part-time consultant psychiatrist to join our team. The post is site based, 22.5 hours per week, with responsibilities across adult mental health and eating disorders wards.

You will participate in multidisciplinary rounds, lead care planning, and act as Responsible Clinician under the Mental Health Act. GMC registration, MRCPsych, and CCT are required, with ongoing professional development and leadership opportunities.

Qualifications

• MRCPsych (or equivalent) and CCT; included on the GMC Specialist Register with Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician status.
• Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team and develop treatment plans.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ongoing professional development.
• Commitment to service improvement and CPD.

Responsibilities

• Take clinical responsibility for patients, including ward rounds and risk reviews.
• Fulfil the role of Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983).
• Supervise referrals and preadmission assessments with the team.
• Provide psychiatric perspective on assessment, formulation and treatment for adults.

Priory Hospital Preston is looking to recruit a consultant psychiatrist to join the team.

Priory Hospital Preston, Bartle, near Preston is a mental health hospital offering services for adult males and females with acute mental health needs and eating disorders across four wards. It is accessible by public transport, with local bus routes and Preston railway station nearby. The M55 motorway is also easily accessible.

You will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our patients wellbeing. We take a personalised approach, using proven therapies to help people move forward with confidence and build a healthier, more fulfilling future. You will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients

• Taking clinical responsibility for patients, including multidisciplinary ward rounds, risk reviews, strategic reviews and the development of a therapeutic milieu.
• Fulfilling the role of Responsible Clinician to patients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983).
• Supervising the process of referral and admission including contributing to preadmission assessments of young people with other team members.
• Offering a psychiatric perspective to the multidisciplinary team in relation to the assessment, formulation and treatment of adults.

Applicants must hold MRCPsych (or an equivalent qualification), a CCT (or equivalent) and be included on the GMC Specialist Register, along with Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician status. They must demonstrate clinical knowledge, skills, and experience relevant to the speciality, the ability to work within and lead a team, and a commitment to shared leadership, collaborative working, and service improvement. Candidates should also have evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.

In addition, highly developed communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as the role relies on building trust and confidence with patients to ensure that treatments and interventions are effective and successful.
