Job summary

South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust seeks a 12-month locum Consultant Ophthalmologist to lead outpatient general and cataract clinics and day case cataract surgery. The post includes supervising junior medical staff and supporting the wider ophthalmology team.

You will participate in audit, teaching and governance work, with activity targets set in partnership with Integrated Care Boards, and provide prospective cover to ensure service flexibility.

Qualifications

• GMC registration required.
• Six to twelve months' clinical experience in the UK.
• Experience in annual job planning and medical appraisals (nice to have).
• Full UK driving licence (nice to have).

Responsibilities

• Deliver outpatient general and cataract services and day case cataract surgery.
• Deliver agreed standards of care and a consultant-led specialist service.
• Support the department in meeting challenging key performance indicators.
• Support delivery of activity targets with Integrated Care Boards and service developments where possible.
• Provide prospective cover to allow flexibility.
• Provide professional supervision, direction and training for junior medical staff and the wider team.
• Take an active role in audit, research, teaching and governance.
• Take part in plans to achieve cost efficiencies across the department.
• Contribute to risk management procedures.
• Achieve continuing professional development targets.
• Work with the existing team of professional colleagues and managers to run and develop ophthalmology services.
