Job summary

Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust is seeking a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist with a focus on women's mental health to join the Secure Services medical team. The role involves leadership of a 6‑patient caseload on Teign Ward and involvement in governance, teaching and service improvement.

The post is in a large regional trust with an emphasis on multidisciplinary collaboration, academic teaching, and secure service delivery.

Qualifications

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
• Fully GMC registered with licence to practise.
• Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months of gaining CCT.
• Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
• Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
• Experience of assessing and treating patients in inpatient settings.
• Leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision.

Responsibilities

• Act as consultant and Responsible Clinician for a caseload of 6 inpatients.
• Provide forensic psychiatric and medico-legal input to the team and contribute to formulations and treatment plans.
• Provide clinical leadership and supervision to colleagues and attend MDT meetings.
• Attend referral and bed management meetings as appropriate.
• Undertake access and admission assessments and provide senior clinical leadership on Teign Ward.
• Collaborate with ward manager on governance, development and quality improvement.
• Participate in on-call rota for secure services and support educational initiatives.
