Job summary

Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust is recruiting a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist with a focus on the male medium secure pathway to join the Secure Services medical team. The post involves responsibility as clinician for a caseload of 10 inpatients and leadership across the ward, including involvement in education, governance and service development.

Opportunities exist for involvement in research and quality improvement projects.

Qualifications

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
• Higher Degree e.g MD, PHD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
• MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
• Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
• Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months of gaining CCT
• Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
• Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
• CCT in Forensic Psychiatry or CCT in General Adult Psychiatry with significant experience of working in the community
• Experience of assessing and treating patients in a inpatient setting.
• Knowledge and evidence of participation in CPD
• Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement
• Experience of working in forensic psychiatry.

Responsibilities

• Act as consultant and Responsible Clinician for a caseload of 10 inpatients.
• Provide forensic psychiatric and medico-legal expertise into the team.
• Support development of multidisciplinary formulations, assessments and treatment plans.
• Provide clinical leadership and supervise colleagues.
• Attend referral and bed management meetings and undertake admissions assessments.
• Provide senior clinical leadership to link ward and collaborate with ward manager.
• Participate in team meetings, reflective practice and cross-team collaboration.
• Contribute to quality improvement and service development projects and teaching.
