Job summary

Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust in Bristol is seeking a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to work on the male medium secure pathway within the Secure Services medical team. The post includes responsibilities as Responsible Clinician for a caseload of around 10 inpatients and opportunities to engage in medical education, quality improvement and research.

Qualifications

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
• Fully GMC registered with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
• Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months of gaining CCT.
• Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
• MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Responsibilities

• Act as consultant and Responsible Clinician for a caseload of 10 inpatients.
• Fulfil responsibilities relating to the MHA, MCA, MAPPA and MoJ.
• Provide forensic psychiatric and medico-legal expertise and contribute to multi-disciplinary formulations, assessments and treatment plans.
• Provide clinical leadership by overseeing clinical decisions and supervising colleagues.
• Attend referral and bed management meetings and undertake admissions assessments.
• Provide senior clinical leadership into link ward and contribute to ward governance and development.
• Attend team meetings and engage with other teams and external stakeholders.
• Participate in consultant on-call rota and in teaching/training initiatives.
• Supervise trainee psychiatrists.
