We are an elective surgery hospital, delivering in excess of 15,000 inpatient and daycase procedures a year. Consultant Anaesthetists at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Southampton work with patients across a range of specialties, including Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Dental, Ophthalmology, General surgery, ENT and Urology.

As part of our professional, friendly and compassionate team you will do everything you can to ensure the patients’ treatment is of the highest standard across a range of anaesthetic services.

At Practice Plus Group we believe in supporting each other and sharing best practice. You will be flexible enough to become an integral part of that team, contributing to the growth and education of our hospital and its staff. You’ll have several years’ experience, at least 2 of which are within the UK. You are committed to your own continuing medical education and professional development. We will also support you to ensure ongoing medical competence through participation in the annual revalidation and reaccreditation schemes of the GMC and the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

What you'll be doing

As our Consultant Anaesthetist, you will provide a wide range of anaesthetic cover - the main specialities covered include, Ophthalmology, ENT and Urology in the first instance. This will be on an elective basis except where a postoperative patient requires a return to theatre.

In addition to the clinical duties, you will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of your patients and with the running of the Department. You will be responsible for producing the appropriate clinical records for each patient. You will work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of services and will share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management.

Please ensure that your CV used in applying includes details of what interested you in the role as well as describing relevant experience within the past 3 years i.e., number of cases performed and outcomes from national database (when relevant).

What we’ll look for in you

  • You will be a UK registered medical professional, who is listed on the Specialist GMC register as well as evidence of speciality training.
  • Several years’ experience, at least 2 of which are within the UK.
  • Wide training and experience in anaesthesia.
  • Able to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems in anaesthesia.
  • Able to take full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision.

What you can expect in return

  • A competitive salary as well as an extensive range of wellbeing and lifestyle benefits.
  • Flexible shifts that enable you to work around other commitments.
  • The support you need to grow in your role and continue your professional development including 10 days CPD per year.
  • 25 days holiday (+ Bank holidays) increasing with service up to a maximum of 28 days plus bank holidays.
