Job summary

Cambridge College is seeking a Construction Technician to provide hands-on technical support across Construction workshops in Cambridge. You’ll maintain equipment, prepare materials for practical sessions, and support teaching staff during demonstrations and assessments.

This permanent, full-year role involves 37 hours per week, with the Local Government Pension Scheme, 27 days of annual leave, and opportunities to contribute to course design while maintaining safety records.

Qualifications

• Level 2 Diploma in a Construction-related trade, or relevant trade experience.
• Experience across multiple trade workshops (bricklaying, carpentry, multi-skills, plumbing).
• Current Health & Safety knowledge relevant to construction.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and maintain records.
• Flexibility to support evening classes and weekend open days.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining, repairing and calibrating equipment across Construction workshops and training areas
• Preparing and setting up tools, equipment and resources ahead of practical sessions and demonstrations
• Supporting lecturing staff during practical sessions, assessments and examinations
• Managing stock levels of raw materials, tools and components, including ordering and inventory records
• Maintaining Health & Safety, COSHH and risk assessment records for all workshop equipment
• Contributing to Department meetings and supporting course design and development

What You’ll Be Doing

What We’re Looking For

• Level 2 Diploma in a Construction-related trade, or relevant trade experience

• Current Health & Safety knowledge relevant to the construction industry
• Good interpersonal, administrative and communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritise, and maintain accurate records
• Flexibility to support occasional evening classes (up to 2 per week) and weekend open days
