Job summary

Randstad Education in Cambridge is seeking a Construction Classroom Technician to join a busy vocational department. This full-time, long-term role offers an immediate start and a stable daily rate in a supportive school environment.

You will prepare workshop bays, manage materials, ensure PPE and tools are safe, and help supervise practical sessions for learners studying construction trades. An Enhanced DBS check is required or can be processed through Randstad.

Qualifications

• Background or working knowledge in construction, carpentry, bricklaying, or related practical trade.
• Experience as Construction Classroom Technician or workshop assistant desirable; trade professionals transitions welcomed.
• Clear communication with a patient manner when working with students.
• Excellent understanding of workshop health and safety guidelines and risk management.
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain via Randstad).

Responsibilities

• Prepare Workshop Bays & Materials ahead of lessons.
• Maintain Health & Safety protocols across workshop areas and PPE usage.
• Tool & Machinery Maintenance: inspect, clean, store, report faults.

Randstad Education is currently seeking a dedicated Construction Classroom Technician to join a well-resourced vocational and trade training department in Cambridge. Available for an immediate start, this full-time position is perfect for an experienced trade professional, workshop assistant, or site worker looking to support the next generation of builders, carpenters, and construction specialists.

As a Construction Classroom Technician, you will work closely with teaching staff and lecturers to prepare practical workshop bays, manage building materials, and ensure all hand and power tools are safely maintained and ready for practical sessions.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare Workshop Bays & Materials: As an essential Construction Classroom Technician, you will set up tools, timber, brickwork materials, and equipment ahead of practical construction lessons.

• Maintain Health & Safety: Uphold strict health and safety protocols across all workshop areas, ensuring personal protective equipment (PPE) is available, used correctly, and maintained.

• Tool & Machinery Maintenance: Inspect, clean, and store hand tools, power tools, and workshop machinery, reporting any faults or maintenance needs promptly.

• Support Student Safety: Assist teaching staff during practical sessions by monitoring students' safe handling of materials, tools, and construction machinery.

• Stock Control: Monitor workshop inventory, assist with reordering raw materials (such as wood, mortar, and fixings), and keep storage facilities clean and organized.

Candidate Profile

We are searching for a reliable, hands-on Construction Classroom Technician with strong practical skills and an organized approach to workshop safety.

• Background or working knowledge in construction, carpentry, bricklaying, building maintenance, or a related practical trade.

• Prior experience as a Construction Classroom Technician, workshop assistant, or site technician is desirable, though trade professionals looking to transition into an educational setting are welcome to apply.

• Clear communication skills with a supportive, patient manner when working alongside students.

• Excellent understanding of workshop health and safety guidelines and risk management.

• Holds an Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one immediately through Randstad).
