Job summary

Murphy is recruiting a Construction Manager to join the Energy Team working on the SSE ASTI Framework. You will lead construction resources, oversee subcontractors and ensure delivery to timescales with a strong focus on HSE and CDM compliance.

The role requires experience as a Construction Manager with tier 1/2 contractors, familiarity with water/utilities projects, and a proactive leadership style. UK-based assignments with on-site responsibilities and a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Experience as Construction Manager for a tier 1 or tier 2 contractor.
  • Experience on water/wastewater/utilities/pipelines projects is preferred.
  • Shafts, trenchless/tunnelling and pipeline experience desirable but not essential.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and performance manage.
  • IT literate: Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, etc.
  • Experience in managing materials and liaising with commercial teams to order/deliver correctly.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate constructability input during solutions development.
  • Allocate construction staff to projects based on skills and workload.
  • Ensure appropriate resource pool size and skill mix for workload.
  • Oversee construction resources including labour, plant and materials.
  • Manage subcontractor performance and adherence to schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and CDM Regulations.
  • Interface with other leaders to drive project development from solution to handover.
  • Gather regular input from Project Manager on third-party, environmental and PR issues.
  • Promote Murphy culture and Zero Harm initiatives.

A day in the life of a Murphy Construction Manager
  • Co-ordination of constructability input during solutions identification and development phase.
  • Co-ordination and allocation of construction staff to projects ensuring that appropriate construction and installation staff are appointed to individual projects: based on experience, skills and knowledge.
  • Liaises with the Project Manager/Senior Site Manager to ensure that the construction resource pool is an appropriate size, with an appropriate blend of skill-sets for the projected workload.
  • Overall management of construction resources including Labour, Plant and Materials.
  • Overall performance management of subcontractors.
  • Ensures that the construction and installation teams are accountable for their performance against agreed schedules and man-hour budgets.
  • Ensures that all construction and installation activities are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Ensures that the duties of the Principal Contractor are discharged in accordance with the CDM Regulations.
  • Ensures that all temporary and permanent construction and installation activities are carried out in accordance with agreed quality procedures.
  • Interfaces with all other functional leaders within the organisation to facilitate successful development of the project from solution stage constructability through construction, installation, commissioning and handover to the client.
  • Ensure regular input from the Project Manager is gained on third party, environmental and public relations issues.
  • Participate in, and positively promote, the Murphy Culture Development Culture (leading to Zero Harm).
