Job summary

Murphy is recruiting for a Construction Manager to work with the Energy Team on the SSE ASTI Framework. The role covers design, construction and commissioning with a strong emphasis on safety and project delivery, including staff allocation and subcontractor performance.

You will ensure resources are aligned with workload, manage materials, and uphold health and safety across all stages of the project, while interfacing with project leadership to achieve timely handover to the client.

Qualifications

  • Successful experience as a Construction Manager for a tier 1 or tier 2 contractor.
  • Experience on water/wastewater/utilities/pipelines projects.
  • Shafts, trenchless/tunnelling and pipeline experience desirable, but not essential.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and performance manage.
  • Experience in managing materials including liaising with the commercial team to ensure the right materials are ordered and delivered.

Responsibilities

  • Co-ordination of constructability input during solutions identification and development phase.
  • Co-ordination and allocation of construction staff to projects based on experience and skills.
  • Liaises with the Project Manager/Senior Site Manager to ensure an appropriate resource pool.
  • Overall management of construction resources including Labour, Plant and Materials.
  • Overall performance management of subcontractors.
  • Ensure construction activities are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Ensure duties of the Principal Contractor are discharged under CDM Regulations.
  • Ensure quality procedures are followed in all construction activities.
  • Interface with functional leaders to support development from solution to handover.
  • Involve Project Manager input on third party, environmental and PR issues.
  • Participate in Murphy Culture Development to promote Zero Harm.

A day in the life of a Murphy Construction Manager

  • Co-ordination of constructability input during solutions identification and development phase.
  • Co-ordination and allocation of construction staff to projects ensuring that appropriate construction and installation staff are appointed to individual projects: based on experience, skills and knowledge.
  • Liaises with the Project Manager/Senior Site Manager to ensure that the construction resource pool is an appropriate size, with an appropriate blend of skill-sets for the projected workload.
  • Overall management of construction resources including Labour, Plant and Materials.
  • Overall performance management of subcontractors.
  • Ensures that the construction and installation teams are accountable for their performance against agreed schedules and man-hour budgets.
  • Ensures that all construction and installation activities are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Ensures that the duties of the Principal Contractor are discharged in accordance with the CDM Regulations.
  • Ensures that all temporary and permanent construction and installation activities are carried out in accordance with agreed quality procedures.
  • Interfaces with all other functional leaders within the organisation to facilitate successful development of the project from solution stage constructability through construction, installation, commissioning and handover to the client.
  • Ensure regular input from the Project Manager is gained on third party, environmental and public relations issues.
  • Participate in, and positively promote, the Murphy Culture Development Culture (leading to Zero Harm).
