Fairmead is recruiting a Construction Buyer for a long‑term contract on a major logistics and construction programme in Bedford. You will own procurement across materials, plant, equipment and subcontract services, sourcing and negotiating with suppliers, and managing delivery schedules with site and project teams.

You will work closely with Commercial Managers, QSs, Project Managers and Logistics Managers to keep procurement aligned with the programme and budget.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Construction Buyer or Procurement Manager in a construction or infrastructure environment.
• Strong in sourcing, comparing and negotiating quotations at scale.
• Excellent cost control mindset with value engineering awareness.
• Experience managing supplier relationships and supply chain risk.
• Proficient with procurement trackers, commitment schedules and audit trails.
• Confident collaborating with commercial, site and design teams.
• Construction sector background essential.

Construction Buyer — Bedford

Fairmead are currently recruiting a Construction Buyer on a long-term contract basis on behalf of our client, a specialist logistics and construction contractor working on one of the most significant new build developments in the UK.

Overview of role

• Location: Bedford
• Duration: Long‑term contract, multi‑year
• Rate: Competitive — call to discuss
• Hours: Monday to Friday, standard construction hours
• Major project environment with a well-established supply chain and commercial team around you

What you'll be doing

You'll take ownership of procurement across materials, plant, equipment and subcontract services for a major logistics and construction programme. That means sourcing and negotiating with suppliers, issuing purchase orders, managing delivery schedules with site and project teams, tracking long lead items, and producing monthly procurement reports. You'll work closely with Commercial Managers, QSs, Project Managers and Logistics Managers to keep procurement aligned with programme and budget.

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as a Construction Buyer or Procurement Manager in a construction or infrastructure environment
• Comfortable sourcing, comparing and negotiating quotations at scale
• Strong on cost control — reviewing material costs against allowances, identifying savings and value engineering opportunities
• Experience managing supplier relationships and supply chain risk
• Good on the admin side — procurement trackers, commitment schedules, audit trails
• Confident working across multiple interfaces including commercial, site and design teams
• Construction sector background essential
