Job summary

Bennett & Game Recruitment Ltd in Henfield is seeking a Buyer to join the procurement team. You will obtain quotations, raise and expedite purchase orders, and drive supplier performance across multiple civil engineering projects.

The role focuses on maintaining supplier records, supporting QHSE compliance, and collaborating with Estimating, Contracts and Site Teams to achieve best value and timely delivery of materials and services.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in purchasing or buying, preferably in construction or civil engineering.
• Strong time management and organisational skills.
• Ability to analyse data and produce cost and procurement reports.
• Knowledge of material specifications and procurement processes.
• Familiarity with QHSE legislation and compliance requirements.
• Experience with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
• Understanding of FSC and PEFC chain of custody management systems.
• Experience using EVision and Procore (or similar procurement/project systems).
• Full UK driving licence or suitable travel arrangements.
• Sustainability awareness desirable.

Responsibilities

• Obtain quotations and place purchase orders to meet project requirements.
• Manage supplier performance and maintain an approved supplier list.
• Support the wider procurement function to drive best value across multiple projects.
• Liaise with Contracts, Estimating and Project Teams to align procurement with programme.
• Raise purchase orders and expedite deliveries to meet project timelines.
• Maintain supplier performance records and audit compliance with QHSE.
• Provide cost advice and support to Estimators during tender stages.
• Extract material requirements from tender and procurement information.
• Assist the Senior Buyer with cost analysis, reporting and scheduling.
• Arrange transfer of materials and plant between sites and head office as required.
• Identify efficiencies, consolidate purchases, and drive cost savings.
• Provide cover for the Senior Buyer during periods of absence.
• Distribute procurement information to sites and stakeholders.
• Support training and development of team members, including apprentices.

A well-established civil engineering and construction contractor is seeking a Buyer to join its procurement team based in Henfield, West Sussex.

This role is ideal for a Buyer with experience in construction or engineering procurement who enjoys a fast-paced environment, working closely with Estimating, Commercial, and Site Teams. The Buyer will be responsible for obtaining quotations, placing orders, managing supplier performance, and supporting the wider procurement function to deliver best value across multiple projects for construction materials, plant & services.
