Job summary

UKAEA in Culham, Oxfordshire, is seeking a Computational Scientist to develop cutting-edge simulation tools for tokamak plasma modelling. The role involves high-performance computing, software engineering, and collaboration with the plasma division to validate tools against experiments.

You will contribute to the Hermes-3 edge code and work with state-of-the-art systems such as SUNRISE. Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent experience in a scientific/engineering field, strong programming

Qualifications

  • Degree or PhD in a scientific/engineering field with research experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop maintainable code with modern languages.
  • Experience in numerical methods for simulation of physical systems is desirable.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to mentor others and work with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

  • Apply computational and numerical methods to plasma modelling and develop robust, maintainable software.
  • Collaborate with domain specialists to deploy models for research and development.
  • Validate tools against experiments and assist with interpretation and design.
  • Communicate results through reports and presentations.
  • Lead or supervise junior colleagues or doctoral students where appropriate.
