Your core responsibilities.

  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety legislation, including DSEAR, COSHH, and Animal By-products Regulations, and report on internal KPIs.
  • Implement and maintain Biffa’s EHS and ISO standards on site, including EMS development and ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 compliance.
  • Monitor contract compliance to avoid financial penalties and report monthly to the Authority on key obligations.
  • Manage site audits, identify gaps, ensure actions are tracked, and maintain reports under the EQHS Management System.
  • Lead onboarding and training for new employees, and coordinate training matrices across the region.
  • Organise and minute Site Safety Improvement Team meetings, ensuring timely completion of actions.
  • Support incident investigations using the Top Set methodology, delivering clear reports and improvement recommendations.
  • Liaise with the Biffa HSQ team for expert guidance and support the Senior Business Manager in meeting contract requirements.

Requirements

  • Experience in compliance, environment, quality, health and safety within public or private sector
  • Strong leadership, planning, and workload management experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and business systems, with ability to analyse data, produce reports, and create presentations
  • Knowledge of environmental and health & safety legislation, with ability to interpret and apply it practically
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies (e.g. CIWM, IQA) and understanding of financial processes

And here’s why you’ll love it at Biffa.

  • Ongoing career development, training and coaching – Because if you don’t grow, we don’t grow.
  • Retail and leisure discounts.
  • Holiday and travel discounts.
  • Life cover.
